My approach to teaching has been shaped by my own experiences as a student, the contributions of mentors, the competencies set by my field, and my investments in my professional development as a teacher. From my early beginnings as the daughter of an educator, I grew up in a family where education was greatly valued. It followed that I would pursue higher education, and I became the first in my extended family to earn a doctoral degree. As I continued on my path, I was exposed to influential teachers and different teaching styles and techniques, many from which I have borrowed in my own classroom. Today, I actively cultivate my teaching by teaching and by participating in workshops and professional development opportunities, consulting with colleagues, and studying authorities in public health education.
I previously taught Master's and Doctoral students at the Claremont Graduate University School of Community and Global Health (CGU-SCGH), and in the Department of Epidemiology at the Loma Linda University School of Public Health (LLU-SPH).
I have many more years of teaching experience collectively at graduate, undergraduate and non-university settings. My earliest teaching experience was for a small, non-profit company called Testing for the Public in Berkeley, CA which offered GRE strategy courses.
